Northney update – November 2026

Building on the recommendations of the Hayling Island Coastal Management Strategy and early engagement with landowners on potential scheme alignments, Coastal Partners has secured funding to build a business case to progress to the next stage of early appraisal and design for a Habitat Creation and Flood Resilience Scheme at Northney. It has recently been confirmed that this project has been allocated further funding for the next three financial years, subject to a successful business case being submitted and awarded to secure the funds and begin the appraisal and outline design stage.

The impact on private landowners requires further consideration, where set back defences are likely to impact their land. Coastal Partners are therefore currently working with the Environment Agency to host a further round of engagement with landowners to further discuss the opportunities available as a priority. The outcome of these negotiations will determine whether there is a case for proceeding to submit the business case with the support of landowners and the Environment Agency in 2027.
