Reptile refuge mats are being placed across designated areas of The King Charles III England Coast path/Billy Lane and north of Langstone High Street as part of preparations for vegetation clearance works later this month. You can find the maps here.
Over the coming weeks, members of our Ecology Team will be carrying out regular inspections of these mats to identify any reptiles using them for shelter. Any reptiles found will be carefully and legally translocated to suitable habitat areas ahead of the planned clearance works, helping to protect local wildlife and ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
You may notice ecologists working around the site during this period as they undertake these important surveys and relocation activities.
Please do not move, remove, or disturb the reptile mats. They play a vital role in the relocation process, and any interference could impact the safety of reptiles, and the success of the ecological mitigation works.
