Hayling Navigation Markers Replacement
As part of navigational safety works at Hayling Island, we will be installing a new marine navigation marker at the seaward end of one of the rock groynes adjacent to Sandy Point. The old navigation marker is no longer functional, and a replacement marker is required.
Who is doing the works?
Havant Borough Council are managing the installation works and supervision. The construction and installation works will be undertaken by our appointed contractor, Suttle Projects.
What do the works involve?
The works are scheduled to take place on 13 and 14 August 2026 and are expected to be completed within two days
On 13th August, mobilisation activities will take place between 7am and 7pm, this will include delivery of construction machinery, site set-up and movement of materials.
On 14 August, installation of the navigation marker will commence from approximately 6:30am to coincide with low tide. Activities will include access to the foreshore, pile driving, installation of the marker and removal of equipment from site on completion.
What to expect
An excavator will be unloaded at the eastern end of Southwood Road and will access the beach opposite Bosmere Road.
A transit route will be in place between the rocks at Sandy Point and promenade to enable access to the lower foreshore. The works may require several passes along this route before completion.
To facilitate safe plant movement, two parking bays on Southwood Road, in front of the access gate will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the works. These bays will be reinstated immediately following completion of the project
To ensure public safety, the access route and promenade will be temporarily restricted during vehicle movements. A safety marshall will be present throughout these operations. Short, temporary restrictions will be in place during vehicle movements between Southwood Road beach access and Sandy Point.
To enable access to the work area, some rock armour units may need to be temporarily repositioned. Any displaced material will be reinstated following completion of the works.
The beach will remain open to the public during the works except for a small working area at the end of the groyne.
Safety warning signs will be installed at key access points at Southwood Road and the promenade leading towards Sandy Point and the foreshore.
