Salterns Recreational Ground Seawall Maintenance
October 2022
Essential repairs to a seawall at Salterns Recreation ground start from 4th October 2022 and will last for up to four weeks.
The repairs are needed due to damage caused by storms Barra in December 2021 and Eunice earlier this year. Work will include; removal of existing debris and a new section of concrete block seawall being constructed over a 30m section. Some work activities can only be undertaken at low tide, which may be outside of normal working hours.
Once complete, this will provide an interim repair to prevent further erosion and damage from spreading to adjacent ageing seawalls. In the future, this area will be subject to a study that will help design long-term sea defences.
Access and Safety
Salterns Recreation ground will remain open to the public whilst the work is taking place. The work will be carried out by JT Mackley & Co Ltd and the site area will be fenced off from the public for safety.
Please take extra care if visiting the area as heavy machinery and vehicles will be in use.
Local nature
This maintenance is taking place during the over-wintering bird period. A discretionary licence has been granted by Natural England for the duration of this work.
