Sandy Point Footpath

Sandy Point Nature Reserve is located on the south east coast of Hayling Island and benefits from flood protection from the Eastoke Coastal Scheme, constructed in 2012. We are aware of the narrowing path at Sandy Point that forms part of the King Charles III England Coastal Path, Hayling Island between the Eastoke sea defence and the fenceline at Sandy Point. This area is owned and maintained by Hampshire County Council. This national trail is managed and owned by Hampshire County Council.

Coastal Partners are in discussions with Hampshire County Council on finding solutions for access in this area. We have explored whether we could afford importing shingle to cover the rock as part of the Beach Management works. However due to access constraints and volume of shingle that would be required as well as the possibility that shingle placed in this location would remain vulnerable to winter storms, the direct intervention of the Borough Council was not justifiable. A more sustainable solution to maintain access for the King Charles III England Coastal Path is the adaptable alternative for moving the fence line back. Discussions with Hampshire County Council are ongoing.
