Southsea Beach West - Shingle Recycling March 2023

Shingle recycling is being carried out at Southsea Beach West by our contractors Avon Construction Ltd on behalf of Portsmouth City Council.

Work begins on site on Tuesday 7th March 2023 and will last for approximately 3 days.

During this operation, shingle is taken from an area of beach where it has built up with tidal movement and delivered to an area where shingle has been lost, helping to maintain the profile of the beach and prevent wave overtopping.

Large construction machinery will be used to excavate and move surplus shingle from the Hover Travel area to other locations along Southsea Beach West.

• Reprofiling of the beach will be undertaken to ensure it’s finished in a natural looking state.
• Contractors will be working in time with the tides, which will take them into the evening.
• Signage will be placed along the frontage and around the protected, vegetated shingle at the Hover Travel area.
