Coastal flood and erosion defence repair works commenced along a section of Mariner’s Way Seawall in the week commencing 11th June 2018 and took approximately 3 weeks to complete.
Where?
The voids were located along the section of the seawall to the rear of the residential properties between Old Road and Mariners Way.
Why?
This section of seawall is of a rubble construction and is in a poor condition, where 7 large voids have formed along the front face of the wall, undermining the footpath which runs along the top of the seawall. Repair works were required to remove health and safety concerns and to maintain protection to the seawall, prior to longer term capital replacement works. The seawall acts as a primary defence, protecting the residential estate from flooding and erosion. The works are to be funded by Gosport Borough Council and supervised by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership.
What?
Norse Commercial Services Ltd. was appointed by Gosport Borough Council to undertake the repair of the seawall. Works started Monday 11th June 2018 and took 3 weeks to complete.
Throughout the duration of the works, voided areas were prepped, cleaned and shuttered, prior to being filled with concrete from the top of the seawall. To aid concrete placement, multiple core holes were drilled through the footpath, which were reinstated upon completion.
