New Defences

The area where the new defences will be located covers the whole of the Selsey Peninsula. This is a 4.5 km length of Selsey coastline that has been split into seven coastal frontages so specific focus can be made on the unique needs of each frontage.

These areas are based on things such as:

  • Current defences
  • Coastal processes
  • Possible management solutions
  • Land levels
  • Space limitations
  • Other local factors

To manage flood risk properly, the new defences will need to connect to higher ground at both ends of the scheme. As the project develops, it will become clearer where these connections should be.

The map below shows the extent of the study area where defences are being considered.
