Southsea Castle Revetment Repairs

Portsmouth City Council are undertaking repairs to the revetment slope on the western side of Southsea Castle following storm damage. The works will reinstate the defence slopes to provide protection to this vulnerable area.

How long will the works take?

The works are due to start on site the 18th of June 2018, and programmed to last for approximately 2-3 weeks.

How will I be affected?

The promenade will remain open to the public. During this time there will be some disruption around the works area, mainly on the seaward side of the guard railing. Please be aware of vehicle deliveries and machinery when using this section of promenade.

What will I see?

The works will involve the removal of any remaining loose blocks from the apron and failed revetment area, new concrete will then be placed in the failed revetment area and finished with a blockwork design.

These are interim works, designed to last until the defences are fully replaced as part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme.

We will also re-lay the granite blocks on the approach slope and dowel in place to reduce the risk of movement in future storms.

Please keep your safety in mind when walking close to construction works and transit areas.

Please bear with us during this period of disruption. We are working hard to balance the speed and quality of construction with the need to minimise the disruption to residents and users.
