North Portsea Island Phase 4b Update - Week 12
The works at the Andrew Simpson Centre slipway are almost finished and then the centre can start using the new slipway. Temporary handrailing is in place, until the permanent railings are fitted.
Works have moved to the nearby Tudor Sailing Club slipway and the clubs will share the Andrew Simpson Centre slipway while theirs is closed for these essential works.
At Tudor Sailing club we are rebuilding a section of the slipway and adding a flood gate at the top of the slipway. First, building a wall made of sheet piles around the edge of the slipway, and then adding metal reinforcement to strengthen the concrete; before finally pouring the concrete in sections called “bays” to form the new section of the slipway.
We have reopened the pathway north of Kendall’s Wharf, which has been seeded with wildflowers and trees planted. The planting will not only enhance the look of the path and connection to nature, but will also benefit the local environment and improve biodiversity.
