Following the River Hamble to Portchester Strategy, Seafield was highlighted as one of three priority areas for a flood scheme.
Since the strategy, an outline design has been developed, with the proposed design of a flood wall for the western defences and a revetment for the eastern & northern defences. The defences are designed to protect against a 1 in 100 year until 2060. - This is a 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP), which means a flood of such magnitude has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year.
January 2022 update:
The next stage for this scheme is to consider the practical implications for the leading design option as well as establish project construction and delivery costs. Estimating the cost builds upon the economic case that supports funding applications which will need to be made to enable the project to be delivered.
For construction to occur additional funding will be required and this will be investigated as the project advances.
